Irish Wolfhound

My newest commission was to create a dog to be displayed inside a client’s house. Whilst not dog-owners themselves, they were fairly specific about size and presence, and the most inspirational breed that jumped immediately to mind was the Irish Wolfhound.

I recently had the pleasure of spending some time in Llandeilo with Jan Pain and her beautiful and wonderfully patient 8-year-old Champion bitch, Fidelia. I had already made a good start on a scale drawing of a wolfhound, but immediately upon spending time with them, I was guided into some subtle but significant changes to the draft.

I’m confident that under the careful eye of Jan and Fidelia, that I’ve managed to capture the essence of the Irish Wolfhound. All that remains is to translate this into steel.

More to come.
